Paramount+ Streaming Service: UK Launch Date Revealed

Paramount+, the major American streaming service owned by Paramount Global (previously ViacomCBS), is finally coming to the UK, with its launch date revealed today: June 22, 2022.

Pricing details have also been announced: £6.99/month or £69.90/yearafter a 7-day trial.

As we previously reportedParamount Plus will be available both as a stand-alone streaming app, and as an add-on to some Sky Q customers (and apparently free for Sky Cinema subscribers).

The standalone app, though, will be available on the major streaming devices – Amazon Fire TV, Roku and others – so, unlike competing American streaming service Peacock – Paramount+ will not require a Sky subscription.

Paramount+ originally launched in the US as CBS All Access in 2014, with content from the North American TV network CBS.

In addition to content from the extensive library of CBS, the channel also produced a few original shows, such as The Good Fight (the spin-off series to The Good Wife), and, most notably Star Trek Discoverythe long-awaited Star Trek sequel/prequel.

In March 2021, CBS All Access changed its name to Paramount+, following the merger with Viacom, bringing in content from additional partners, such as Showtime, Comedy Central and Paramount Pictures. As of this writing, the service has almost 40 million subscribers around the world.

In the US, Paramount+ offers two paid tiers: $4.99/month with adverts, and $9.99/month without adverts.

In the UK, Paramount+ is going to cost £6.99/month or £69.90/year (with a 7-days free trial).

Sky Q subscribers with the Sky Cinema plan, will get Paramount+ at no extra cost, getting more than 10,000 hours of extra content. All other Sky customers will be able to subscribe to Paramount+ as an add-on to their account.

Sky with Paramount+

NOW subscribers (Sky’s streaming service)however, won’t get Paramount+ for free, even if they’re subscribed to the Cinema membership.

But the stand-alone Paramount+ app will be available on NOW’s own streaming devices (which are are no longer being manufactured).

Since some of the movies available on Paramount+ in the US are already a part of Sky Cinema, we’re told those movies will remain on Sky Cinema as part of its library, so those will at least be accessible to NOW Cinema subscribers.

Paramount+ Shows And Films In The UK

Star Trek – Coming To Paramount Plus

Paramount Plus made a name for itself as the home of star trek – both past and new shows. In the UK, the situation is a bit more complicated, as some of the Star Trek shows and films are already available on other streaming services.

The classic Star Trek shows – The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager and business, are all currently available to stream on Netflix in the UK. It’s safe to assume they’ll move to Paramount+ at some point – as they did in the US.

The first three seasons of Star Trek Discoveryalso used to stream on Netflix in the UK (and the rest of the world, except for the US).

But then, right before Season 4’s premiere, all seasons were removed from Netflix, causing a major uproar. Instead, the show can currently be streamed live in the UK on Pluto TVor bought on Amazon’s Prime Video VOD store.

When Paramount+ launches in the UK, all of Star Trek: Discovery’s seasons, including Season 4, will become available on the new streaming service.

Then there’s star trek picard, which is available to stream in the UK on Amazon Prime Video. As we reported, Season 2 of Picard was also released on Prime Video – so it remains to be seen when Picard joins the rest of the Star Trek shows on Paramount+ in the UK.

The same goes for Star Trek: Lower Deckswhich is also currently available on Prime Video in the UK.

The newer Star Trek shows, however, will be exclusive to Paramount+ in the UK.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the prequel series that follows the adventures of Captain Pike (Anson Mount), his Number One (rebecca romijn) and Spock (Ethan Peck). It premieres in the US on May 5 – and has already been renewed for a second season.

Other Paramount+ Shows

Halo premiered on Paramount+ in the US on March 24, 2022.
