Let us begin today’s bulletin with news on Bill Cosby, after two days of deliberations in which they reached verdicts on nearly all of the questions put before them, jurors in a civil trial who were deciding on sexual abuse allegations against Cosby will have to start from scratch on Monday. By the end of the court day, the Los Angeles County jury had come to an agreement on whether Cosby had sexually assaulted plaintiff Judy Huth at the Playboy Mansion when she was 16 in 1975, and whether Huth deserved any damages. In all they had answered eight of nine questions on their verdict form, all but one that asked whether Cosby acted in a way that should require punitive damages.
“Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is slowly making her presence on social media. Currently, she is grabbing eyeballs for her dance moves. The 16-year-old has taken the internet by storm with her latest video of her where she’s grooving to “Vegas” by Doja Cat from the soundtrack of the upcoming biopic, Elvis.
Shiloh uploaded the video on her YouTube channel. The teenager has been associated with the Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles for some time now. She’s also featured in a number of videos from the studio that she has collaborated with Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. It is also known for bringing together choreographers like Hamilton Evans, Tobias Ellehammer, and James Combo Marino.”
“Moving on, Marvel recently released a brand new teaser from its upcoming film Thor: Love and Thunder that seems to be a total blast.
The clip shows Chris Hemsworth’s Thor trying to enthuse his people ahead of a big fight, a reminder of Captain America’s “Whatever it takes” speech from Avengers: Endgame. But unlike the Captain, Thor fails abysmally as Korg goes to grab some popcorn, Valkyrie thinks they are all going to die and Miek is being a distraction. The rest of the video is interspersed with shots of Thor, Valkyrie, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Jane Foster fighting the main antagonist Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale. The movie is set out to release on July 8th. ”
“In other news, Lightyear did not go to infinity, or beyond, in its first weekend in theaters: Pixar’s first major theatrical release since March 2020 blasted off with $51 million in its debut weekend in North America, according to studio estimates on Sunday. Not only did it open lower than expected, but it also failed to conquer Jurassic World: Dominion, which held on to the first-place spot with $58.7 million on its second weekend.
It is a mixed bag for Disney and Pixar as Lightyear, is one of the biggest launches for an animated family film over the pandemic. Lightyear’s global opening weekend totals $85.6 million.
“Hollywood studio Lionsgate has announced that the sequel to the cult classic Dirty Dancing will be released in theaters in the US on February 9, 2024.
According to Deadline, Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Gray is returning for the sequel, which will be directed by Jonathan Levine from a screenplay he wrote with Elizabeth Chomko, Mikki Daughtry, and Tobias Iaconis.
The new movie will see Grey’s Frances “Baby” Houseman going back to Kellerman’s Resort for a story of summer, young romance, and dancing. In the 1987 movie, Jennifer Gray had famously starred opposite Patrick Swayze, who played the role of dance instructor Johnny Castle. The movie turned out to be a cultural phenomenon in the US. ”
Meanwhile, as Ezra Miller continues to get embroiled in controversies, Warner Bros is now seriously contemplating working with the actor in the future, after the film releases in June 2023. In the latest scandal, Ezra caused a mother and 12-year-old child to get a temporary harassment order against them. According to reports, Ezra behaved inappropriately towards her child and their family. Well-placed sources told Deadline that even if no more allegations surfaced, the studio would not keep them as the scarlet speedster in the upcoming DCEU films. Another source said that there was no ‘winning’ for the studio, and that one could only hope that the scandal would remain at a low level before the film is released.
“Moving on to movies to look forward to, Netflix has announced that ‘Persuasion’, the film adaptation of author Jane Austen’s classic novel, will release on its platform on July 15. Hollywood star Dakota Johnson headlines the film, dubbed as a “modern , witty approach to a beloved story”, along with actors Cosmo Jarvis and Henry Golding.
The streaming service shared the news of the movie’s release in a post on Twitter along with its official trailer. Netflix Film tweeted, “There’s always the one that got away. Persuasion, starring Dakota Johnson, Cosmo Jarvis, and Henry Golding, based on the beloved Jane Austen novel—arrives on Netflix July 15”.
“Lastly, on the eve of Juneteenth, the Tribeca Festival came to a close with the Reverend Al Sharpton documentary ‘Loudmouth’ in a premiere that united on stage Sharpton and Spike Lee. The event held recently at the Borough of Manhattan Community College celebrated Sharpton with the kind of big-screen portrait that has been commonplace for an older generation of civil rights leaders, but had, until Loudmouth, eluded the 67-year-old activist. “Loudmouth” contextualizes Sharpton’s legacy of him as an extension of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Representative John Lewis, and others. Loudmouth, which is seeking distribution at Tribeca, was introduced by Tribeca co-founder Robert De Niro.
